( Please read - we have a new blog as this one is full)

Last night we went out tot the Hard Rock Casino to have a look and so Daryl could collect a guitar for his collection.  We had a flutter and lost our money again (only about $30, so we can handle it....last of the big spenders) - seems lady luck is not on our side this trip.
After 3 nights in Albuquerque, we pack up and hall out - tomorrow is Thanks Giving and we are worried about the traffic.

The lady at the RV park in ABQ recommended the Oasis RV Park in Amarillo so we head there arriving around 5pm, having crossed the time line again (gaining another hour).

On the way we stopped at the Route 66 Car Museum at Santa Rosa and check the place out.

Gallup - Albuquerque

We arrived into Gallup in the dark, found the RV park which was situated on the famous Route 66, seems it was not the safest area as we were warned not to go for a walk out on the street when we checked in. This morning Daryl went for a bike ride (in the frost as very cold ice everywhere), (so cold Daryl has been wearing socks to bed !!) to the gas station to get bread for toast for breakfast and he could see why........ not so pretty, working town....... politely put.

We made our way to Albuquerque on the I-40, which was a couple of hours drive being passed by 18 wheeler trucks as the speed limit is 75 mph we cruze around 65 -70 mph, this still,  gave us time to settle in early & catch up on the chores, laundry, shopping, cleaning & camping world to find new bike racks, the reason will be told at a later date.   Unexciting but necessary.....

The RV Park had great facilities and we slept in before checking out their complimentary breakfast.  Then we cruised up to Santa Fe via Madrid where Wild  Hogg's was filmed.

A day spent poking around the shops in both places - Santa Fe old town is a great place to visit with charming decor and old town setting.

Camp Verde - Gallup via Petrified Forest

Yesterday we drove down to Scottsdale and went to the South-West Goodguys Nationals, where Daryl got his fix again...  Some really cool cars there and a few projects that made his fingers itch.

We left camp today, pleased to move on and decided on an north-east route - we had been debating where to go as the weather is playing a big factor and we have acclimatised to 80-100 F, so now we are feeling the cold.  There is still snow on the ground in places and the further south we go the warmer it is but Daryl really wants to see the Petrified Forest and I was hoping to head across to Santa Fe, both north of here.   That one will be a day by day decision.

We headed off and after travelling miles up, we needed petrol so head down the opposite way to the nearest town, Strawberry...which turned out not to have any gas stations in sight, so on to Pine a little further down the steep incline.  Once filled we decided to keep going that way rather than return back up the mountain.

We travelled along the rim road at high altitute where snow was on the side of the road, felt like on top of the world in places.  Very scenic route and we made it through to the Petrified Forest by about 3pm, stopping at the gift store before entering and purchasing our own little piece of wood turned to stone - it is quite beautiful but the logs of table size are about $9000US.

Trees turned to stone...wicked.

As the sun goes down across Arizona, we cross the border into New Mexico.

Sedona & Jerome

We based ourselves at Distant Drums RV Park in Camp Verde for 3 nights, which turned out to be a bit of a boo boo as although the camp appears nice, the people running it made it very unpleasant to be there.

In any case, we were doing day trips around the area, so were only there at nights.  The next day we headed off to Sedona via Oak Creek, past Bell Rock, Castle Rock and into the Talquepaque Arts & Craft Village which was a great place to spend the morning.  We loved Sedona with it's red rock and Spanish style buildings.  The day was overcast and not too many people were about.  They had some beautiful art work there of all different kinds and the atmosphere was great.

Sedona just blends in with the surrounding land we really enjoyed it there.  Everyone is gearing up for Christmas here with light shows and sale everywhere.

Next we headed over to Jerome via Cottonwood old town where we had pizza & wine for lunch - very nice.

Stopped at Tuzigoot National Monument, and then up to Jerome high in the hills where we spent some time looking around shops, found a really neat Christmas shop called 'Mooey Christmas & Udder things'  Cute.

Flagstaff - Camp Verde

We had to stay another night in Flagstaff to do a repair on the RV - nothing major but it had to be done..... In the afternoon we took a trip to Williams on Route 66, which was at least 20 degrees warmer and we spent some time poking around the shops.

.......

A man thing Route 66 Mother Road for car nuts like me.

Only in America......

Next morning we left and headed south looking for warmer weather as only around 40F and too cold for us!  We stopped at a RV park in Camp Verde as this was central to the area, set up and headed out to look at Montezuma's Castle, not far away.

The people that lived here mysteriously left around 1400AD and no one knows why.

We also went to Montezuma's Well which is a different place - they used to live in caves around the well......

Caves with rooms further back - small doors just visible.

Daryl spent some time looking for snakes again.....
