Missoula to Glacier National Park

We leave Yogi's Jellystone RV Park this morning after Daryl's goodbye cuddle with Yogi...

The only Bear I'm going to see.....

Be my friend Boo Boo

Heading north towards the Glacier and Canadian border, we come across the "Miracle of America Museum" in south Polson....  the old guy running this explains it was a hobby that got out of hand....
you have never seen so much STUFF of every variety - the photos are just the tip of the iceberg.

1960's RV..... Hippee Wagon

If you want to see more go to... www.miricleofamericamuseum.org

We move on and reach the Glacier area around 2pm so enter the park to find the road is closed in the middle and we are too big to have gone thru in any case... sound familiar.  Anyway we drove up McDonald Lake for the 16 miles the road was open, very beautiful - reminds us of home.

The water is sooooo clear

We have been promised bears are in this area....but still no bears!!!!

Gardiner to Missoula

At Rcoky Mountain Daryl catches up with a couple of other campers and decides we will carry on to Glacier National Park on the border to Canada, below Calgary.

Driving along we spot our first Moose, slam on the breaks and pull into the next drive to go back for a look......preety cool.

We head off about 10.30am and stop in the next town about 52 miles north called Livingston to see the Train Museum but this is closed for the season.  We go for a walk and find this is a good old American town - old style....

We head off again and soon see the sign for the Madison Buffalo Jump where the buffalo run over a cliff edge.......this is how the indians used to hunt them - they drove them over the cliff to kill them.
We go to check this out as Daryl had heard about it....a bit of a rough road and after a bone shaking trip we make it.  Not much to see but the cliff and a dead snake skin.

We keep going and pass through the begining of the Rockies - easy to see how they were named.  We hit smoke for about 60 miles - there must be a huge wildfire over the hills, eventually we drive through it and get to Missoula where we stay at Yogi's Bear's Jellystone Park - finally we met Yogi!

Nice night and temputure is a lot warmer - pork steaks for dinner, yum.

Yellowstone - West Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs/Gardiner

We found out that the top of the upper loop is already closed for the season as construction is underway, so we head north up the west side of the upper loop towards Mammoth Hot Springs.

This part is windy and narrow, not so much fun to drive on but we see more Bison along the way - they are on the road and Rangers are there to protect them & us.....

Gibbon Falls

Roaring Mountain

You don't want to run into one of these....

We stop at the last minute and go down a long walkway to find the hot springs - amazing and a lot of people don't do the walk down to them - they really miss out.

Looks like snow but is boiling water....

Deer resting around the houses in Mammoth Hot Springs.
You have to watch where you step.......droppings everywhere, but pretty cool to be wandering around with wildlife.

We have an ice cream biscuit but nowhere to stay in Mammoth Springs so we head out about 5 miles to Gardiner.
Pronghorn in the distance.....

Roosevelt Arch at the North Entrance to Yellowstone.
First entrance and only one that stays open all year round.

We camp at the Rocky Mountain RV Park for the night - the wind is up & it is cold, threatening to rain but doesn't come to much.
