Well the tour started late.. we weren't sure what we had install for us, as the first stop was at a run down closed adventure building on the lake edge. To begin with the commentary was cutting edge, not..... and we all had to climb out to look at the salt on the beach. Next stop was to look at sea monkeys at the nearby marina.....
Then on to the mines, which made the trip worthwhile, especially for Daryl who stood gazing over the edge of the mine at the huge trucks capable of hauling 400 tonnes which looked like tonka toys in a sandpit.
The pick ups are big compared to ours, but tiny against these trucks |
The tiny truck is a Mack..... |
The 'Happy Tourist' |
The copper is only 3% of all they mine, so they have to dump the rest in man made hills, which they are now trying to clean up by reclaiming and planting out - a huge job.....
According to our guide....if one of these trucks dumps its load on your house, you would never find it again......
