Robert & Cats BBQ & Sequoia

Saturday morning we headed off and decided to call in at Downtown Disney for some shopping for the grand kids.  Just as well as we discovered that Daryl had left his expensive reading glasses at the RV Park, a quick phone call located them and we were able to duck back and collect them after shopping.  Then we headed out to Chatsworth we we stayed at the Walnut RV Park - this appeared to be mostly permanent residents and although the entrance looked lovely, the park itself was not.

We had been invited to 'The Super Awesome Summer BBQ Music Extraganza' hosted by Cat and Robert Van der Heiden. Daryl had worked with Robert in Christchurch on the new computer programme for AMI and so a friendship had developed over a few late nights.....

The band with no name was fabulous in which Cat & Robert played & sung with friends. Cat has an amazing voice and the variety of music played was great.  We got to meet their family and friends and the BBQ was also great - their son Tom gave us tips on what was good (all of it) and we had to try the Kale salad which was great as we had seen it growing in Santa Cruz but didn't know what it was. It was a great night all round plus a wonderful experience for us on our travels and Robert & Cat's hospitality made us feel very welcome.

All this excitement is catching up on us and we wake the next morning ready to take off and be on our way.  Last port of call is to Duane's again to catch up & collect mail before heading on our way to Sequoia National Park.  It was a long day we were glad to finally find a place to park up at Kaweah Park Resort where we will stay for two nights to have a rest.

Today is Monday...we have to remind ourselves as we are loosing track of time already.  We meet Woody Wood Pecker & the squirrels around the park as we made the most of not having to go anywhere other than biking about 5 minutes up to the local supermarket to decide what to BBQ for tonight's dinner.  We were told to keep an eye out for rattlesnakes (they had killed one the morning we arrived.....)  Just what you wanted to think about while going to the showers in the dark but none were spotted, only a white owl who looked a bit over protective of its territory.

Unfortunately we also discover we can go no further this way as our RV is too long - nothing bigger than 22ft is allowed and our timing was also bad in terms of all the free ranger walks finished the day we arrived.  On the flip side, as summer holidays are over and the last long weekend been, the park emptied out this morning and we had the entire park to ourselves until around 4pm when 2 more RV's pulled in.  Another great day in the sun and a swim in the pool cooled us down in the afternoon.  Rounded off with a couple of light beers and BBQ.  Life good be worse.
