Yellowstone - We made it!

The route from Idaho Falls to West Yellowstone entrance was scenic and we stopped alongside a river for lunch - fresh sandwiches & a cuppa.... one of the great advantages of driving in your home.

We reached the campground around 2pm so continued into Madison Junction just before the Montana border and the entrance to Yellowstone National Park.  We poked around in the shops - the place closes down in the next week or so for winter - the season is over and we only just made it here.
The temperature changes and we run back for sweaters before heading back to the campground for the night.  It reaches 2 below and we put on an extra duvet and figure out how the heater works, much to our relief - cold just like home!

The next morning is brisk and we eagerly jump out of bed...not.  But once underway, we decide to do the lower loop & get on the way.  First stop is at Fountain Flat Drive, where we set off on the cycles towards Midway Geyser about an hour.  As we cross the bridge, an Asian tourist walking towards us says 'be careful a cow'....  We were amazed to find our first Bison munching the grass a short distance from the path - man they are big!  The cycle is across wild lands, lakes and very pretty.  Just a little worried a bear might actually turn up...... nah.

Then on to Fountain Paint Pot

Next stop,  Midway Geyser

Boiling water running into river

Next stop Old Faithful

Next stop Kepler Cascades

The Contential Devide

We are not even half way around.....it is about 3pm already and I'm not telling how many photo's we have taken already......

We stop at West Thumb & get a great suprise of a Bull Elk which got very close

We set off around the lake with other stops along the way....

It's getting dark as we pull back into our camp - been a long day, time for a drink...
